TKM The LINC Family Day 2022!
And it feels like, “Finally!”
- Written by Teacher Swan
A few weeks ago, the 2022 Annual Family Day was celebrated with much joy and excitement at The Gardens Theatre. It was our first Family Day in 2 years. Not only is it coming back physically this year, but with a tweak as well, with more performances and the addition of quest challenges for families to participate!
I am not sure about you, but I was thrilled when it was announced!
Team LINC! - The third Family Day session of the weekend.
What is the purpose of this event, you ask?
It was really all about the heaps of fun, and of course, a great learning experience for all of us too.
How did you and your family enjoy the quest challenge? Which booth did you enjoy participating in the most? Did your child complete the quest to collect all stickers on the quest card?
Hands-on Learning
I was especially crazy about a booth from one of our lovely vendors, Kuvings. Our children had a splendid time at the “GUESS THE FRUIT” mystery box, an activity that builds on children’s natural curiosity. By getting children to focus on their sense of touch, they needed to identify the fruits hidden in the mystery box. How many fruits did your child(ren) and you guess correctly?
As an early childhood educator, I am an advocate for “hands-on learning” approach. There is no doubt the uncountable underlying benefits of this approach to children, but most importantly I love seeing children have fun and feel empowered while immersing in their own learning experiences. And they all did just that across all the activities booths that day.

The big production
What we saw as a performance is more than just the children going up on stage to sing and dance. It required much planning, coaching, and many rounds of practice to make it a success.

Were you pleasantly surprised how well your children remembered all the songs, dance moves, and formations for their performances? Kudos to our persistent children and hardworking teachers who have rehearsed tirelessly, over and over again before the actual day.
Dear children and teachers, your hard work and dedication has paid off!
Our Nursery 1 and Nursery 2 students had tremendous fun wearing these beautiful costumes and doing rehearsals in The LINC branch.
It was definitely a workout for the children…
-
Physically, when they were dancing and moving around; and
-
Mentally, when they got to exercise their minds and memories in remembering the details of their performances.
Definitely a workout for our dearest caregivers and parents too!
To date, the songs are still stuck in our heads. We still hear the children humming the songs and repeating the dance moves in school. It was a good time, for sure, that we want to relive time and again.
I, personally, was in awe of the children’s teamwork whilst preparing for a team production on stage. Every one of them worked together and was encouraging, focused, and committed. All of us who were in the spotlight were feeling a whole array of emotions: excited, nervous, ecstatic, wonder.
